If you are applying for a payroll specialist job and think that you meet the criteria outlined in the job description, there’s probably a very good chance that you are qualified for the job.
That’s not enough though. Having all the experience in the world is all well and good, but it won’t make a difference unless you can effectively communicate exactly what you can offer the company to recruiters.
This blog outlines a few steps you can to take to ensure that you, not somebody else, are the number one candidate for the job and that you land yourself the payroll specialist job you want.
Understand the role and tick all the boxes
The CV you send should include all the skills and qualifications asked for in the job description, and more. Do you have any specialist skills?
Whether you choose to include it all in a bullet-pointed list or in more detail is up to you, but the best CVs leave no stone unturned, aiming to sell you – the candidate – as effectively as possible.
Display your strong command of the English language by writing fluently about skills you’ve acquired and how they will help if you are given the new job – lay it out clearly and don’t worry about the myth of your CV being too long, because it should be as long as it needs to be.
Hold a mock interview
Stand in front of the mirror and practise speaking loudly and clearly, so that when it comes to the face-to-face interview you know exactly what to say, and how to say it most effectively to get the desired effect.
Body language is everything and makes up 90% of human communications – don’t hamper your chances and counteract your CV’s good work by appearing lazy and uninterested. Practise is the best way to work on this.
Finally, if there’s someone who can help out, you should try to hold a mock interview.
Research the company thoroughly
The more you know about the company, the more you can show that you care and that you are serious about getting the job. Learn about the history of the company and read their latest news stories to give yourself some context.
Present yourself appropriately
When it comes to the interview, if you dress appropriately, not only will you look and feel good, giving yourself more confidence, but you will also impress the interviewer.
